As a central location to everything you may want to do in all of Northwest Arkansas, Bentonville has great access to both Interstate 540 and Scenic Highway 71 or the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport on its southwestern border. But with the lifestyle that Bentonville’s nearly 35,000 enjoy they don’t have to go far to find something to keep them occupied. Downtown Bentonville is a center for community activities that includes the "Music on the Square" series beginning when the weather warms and which sends the sounds of bluegrass, country, blues, folk, country and classical music to residents during the weekends. Lead by Downtown Bentonville, Inc., a nonprofit organization that works to enhance Bentonville, the organization also produces over 100 other community events throughout the year in the downtown area.
Bentonville residents are anxiously awaiting the scheduled 2009 opening of Crystal Bridges, a premier national art institution. Founded by the daughter of Sam Walton, founder of Wal-Mart, the $50 million American art complex will stretch out over approximately 100,000 square feet of gallery, library and meeting space. Encompassed by walking trails and gardens, this exciting addition to Bentonville will also include an indoor auditorium for public events to compliment the museum’s permanent collection.
Bentonville also offers a variety restaurants and shopping opportunities, including the local farmers market with its fresh and locally grown produced, tasty baked goods and incredible homemade crafts. The farmers market, located next to Dave Peel Park, also hosts additional music and theater performances and cooking demonstrations. The new Memorial Park’s 53 acres includes lots of fun recreational facilities, including an Olympic size pool, lighted tennis courts, playgrounds, pavilion and skate park along with the traditional sporting fields for soccer, baseball and softball.
Although Bentonville is home to Wal-Mart, the community environment reflects small town values and rural charm. The town may hold a retail powerhouse, but the people work together for the benefit of the those who call this wonderful city home.
